"Cannot allocate memory " error whle copying data from window to ubuntu

I have Ubuntu 9.10 installed inside VM of server 2008. WHen i try to copy the data from the network and paste insid ethe Ubuntu it says error

called "Cannot allocate memory "

I have 3GB RAM attached to the Ubuntu

  • I have the same problem. I have Ubuntu 9.1 on a Dell Vostro 1014 laptop. When I try to copy a large file over the network I get a "Cannot allocate memory" error. I can see the progress of the copying - it will go quickly and then freeze for a period, and then go again and then freeze, and eventually stop and produce the error.

This seems similar to when I try to play a video located on another computer on my network - the video will play fine for a short period of time and then freeze, restart in a while and then freeze.

This is related to the wireless connection because this does not happen with a wired connection to my router. I have two other laptops in the house (Mac and W7) that do not have this issue with the wi-fi.

I am a total LInux/Ubuntu newbie, and any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    From Alex
